Marathon Training Season
This past winter has been brutally cold and snowy which made it difficult to maintain my weekly mileage. Now that the weather is finally warming up, I have no excuse but to get myself outside and just run.
My favorite places to run in NY:
- Cross Island Parkway Trail begins at Little Bay Park and ends at Northern Blvd by Alley Pond Park. This route is about 6 miles round trip, mostly flat, and a tiny restroom at Bayside Marina.
- Cunningham Park Trail begins at the parking lot by the softball fields and ends at Alley Pond Park Tennis Courts. This route is about 4 miles round trip with some rolling hills and water fountains and restrooms at Alley Pond Park
- Central Park has several loops for bikers, runners, and pedestrians. The smallest and most southern loop is 1.7 miles, the middle and lower loop is about 5 miles, and the outer full loop is 6.1 miles. The Running Store in Columbus Circle has lockers to store your things.
- The Dutchess County Rail Trail in Poughkeepsie, New York stretches from Hopewell Junction and passes through the Walkway Bridge and into Ulster County. It's 18 miles long (one-way) which makes it ideal for uninterrupted marathon/cycling training.
